Once again, our Centre completed successfully another workshop "Study at Home & Fun Mathematics' in the 11th primary school of Kalamata, on March 4th, 2017.
The guest speakers Dr. Chrysos and Mr. Nikolopoulos focused, respectively, on
-
the students' problem of studying efficiently at home and, above all, the factors that conform with it
-
the development of mathematical thought-literacy; namely, the students' ability to apply mathematical knowledge, methods and processes to everyday life problems.
More specifically, the discussion subject was, on the one hand, the general organization of studying at home (e.g. study habits & conditions, space arrangement, time management, student self-discipline) and, on the other hand, the systematic understanding of fundamental mathematical concepts via multiple representations (e.g. real situations, manipulative models, images, oral language, written symbolism); thus, that study and the whole homework, especially in mathematics, will become a pleasant activity without negative emotions (e.g. maths phobia).
